With the snip of a ribbon Monday morning, Southwest Florida drivers were gifted a new route to traverse Lee and Collier counties. When rush hour or a crash causes backups and blockages on I-75 or along U.S. 41, drivers can now get from Radio Road in Collier to Daniels Parkway in Lee via Three Oaks Parkway, Imperial Parkway and Livingston Road.

Three Oaks Parkway Extension Project is having a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the new section of road.

More opportunities are coming to hear information about a planned improvement project for Interstate 75. In-person and virtual public hearings to discuss capacity improvements to I-75 in Collier and Lee counties will be held Oct. 27 and 28.

Repairs are expected to take about a week; detours will be in place.

The Cape Coral Fire Department is offering free reflective backpack flashers as a public safety measure. The small LED lights are red and can be clipped on to a child's backpack to make them more visible to motorists.

Motorists on Ortiz Avenue should use caution early next week when crews shift southbound traffic between Colonial Boulevard and the roundabout at Hanson Street.

Starting at 8 p.m. on Monday, June 8, motorists should expect brief closures of eastbound and westbound Daniels Parkway as well as the I-75 ramps for crews to work on overhead signals.

County Road 78 is in need of improvements; Hendry County awarded $1 million grant to kick-start the work.

The Lee County Department of Transportation advises motorists that Fiddlesticks Boulevard traffic will be shifted to the new roundabout the week of May 11 in order to access Three Oaks Parkway Extension and Daniels Parkway.

Peliminary work will start Monday for improvements to the intersection of Treeline Avenue and Daniels Parkway in Fort Myers, from Jetport Loop to Heartwood Boulevard.
