"Gutenberg the Musical" is in its final weekend of performances at TheatreZone in Naples. The premise is so preposterous it will keep you in stitches.

It’s been called "Monty Python meets Sherlock Holmes." An Olivier Award-winning comedy, “The Play That Goes Wrong” features an unconscious leading lady, a corpse who can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything, including their lines. It's also one of four shows opening in area theaters this week. Ten others close and 11 continue their runs this week as well.

“Moonlight and Magnolias” headlines the five shows opening this week at Southwest Florida community and equity theaters. Three others close and 17 continue their runs as well.

This week, 5 shows open, 2 close and 18 continue their runs and there is one limited engagement at Southwest Florida equity and community theaters.

TheatreZone opens each season with "Home for the Holidays," a musical variety show that sells out every year because it's really well done. TheatreZone provides a fresh show each year and there are only four performances in the intimate, 250-seat G&L Theatre at Community School of Naples.

TheatreZone is in for a bumpy ride this season - at least in January, when Producing Artistic Director Mark Danni brings “Grumpy Old Men the Musical” to the stage.

The $115.5 billion budget signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis includes more than $18 million for 184 arts organizations. Most Southwest Florida arts and culture organizations remain on the outside looking in.
