I-75

Plans to widen Interstate 75 from Golden Gate Parkway in Collier County to Alico Road in Lee County were explained Monday at Estero Community Park. The wider I-75 will have express lanes and auxiliary lanes — but it won’t have a sound barrier in Estero — and that absence is one that is making some residents none too happy.

The Florida Department of Transportation will host three open house public meetings next week for residents to learn more about planned improvements to I-75.

A full weekend closure of Pine Ridge Road at the I-75 interchange (exit 107) in Collier County will be in effect from Friday, July 24 at 11 p.m. to Monday, July 27 at 6 a.m.

Between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday, June 22 through Friday, July 17, motorists may encounter intermittent northbound and southbound outside lane closures on Interstate 75 between the Corkscrew Road Interchange and Estero Parkway overpass.

Starting at 8 p.m. on Monday, June 8, motorists should expect brief closures of eastbound and westbound Daniels Parkway as well as the I-75 ramps for crews to work on overhead signals.

Family members involved in a wrongful death lawsuit resulting from the 2024 fatal jet crash on I-75 in Naples are seeking to move their case to another judge who is handling a similar case from the same crash. Both suits were filed in 2025.

Peliminary work will start Monday for improvements to the intersection of Treeline Avenue and Daniels Parkway in Fort Myers, from Jetport Loop to Heartwood Boulevard.

The final report by the National Transportation Safety Board on Flight 823, which crashed during an emergency landing on I-75 in Naples on Feb. 9, 2024, was released Thursday afternoon. It pins the probable cause of the crash on corrosion in both engines that led to lost of thrust and the ensuing crash landing.

A 1,733-acre wildfire was being fought in the Picayune Strand State Forest in Collier County Monday afternoon. The fire was south of Alligator Alley and prompted a warning from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was seriously injured by debris after another driver hit his parked patrol vehicle along I-75 Sunday morning. The driver, Jonathan Munas, 32, of Sarasota, was charged with driving under the influence.
