No Longer in Beer's Shadow, Honey-Based Mead Is Making a Sweet Comeback

For the next several weeks, WUSF News and The Zest podcast are collaborating on a special reporting project on honey bees. 

SPECIAL REPORT: The Buzz On Florida's Honey BeesMead, an alcoholic beverage made from fermented honey, is growing in popularity because of things like craft beer, Harry Potter books and the Games of Thrones craze. Brian Wing of St. Petersburg’s Green Bench Mead & Cider says the brewery’s small-batch mead is the most “local” thing you can drink, made with honey from Green Bench’s rooftop beehives.

  • Gray Catbirds are in a bird family known as the “Mimidae” – because they mimic other birds, other animals, and even mechanical sounds.
