The Causeway Islands Park opened Thursday morning on the Sanibel Causeway with its first phase of amenities, the first time that visitors were able to enjoy the shoreline since the devastation of Hurricane Ian in September 2022.The park had been closed due to the essential rebuilding activities by the Florida Department of Transportation, which used the site during the critical process of rebuilding the Sanibel Causeway to make it more resilient.

For over 30 years, they've been defying gravity and pushing the boundaries of human physical ability. The Peking Acrobats are coming to Sanibel this week, bringing their display of contortion, gymnastics, and balance that has captivated audiences worldwide.

Sanibel's Natural Resources Department has been busy preparing for the final phase of the Lighthouse Beach renourishment project by preparing to plant nearly 30,000 pieces of dune vegetation. Yesterday, a team was out sorting, measuring, and preparing the area for plantings made on Thursday.

Phase II of the City of Sanibel's beach renourishment project at Lighthouse Beach Park has resumed. Crews will continue to place the remaining 105,000 tons of sand on the bayside of Lighthouse Beach Park to strengthen the beach coastline and protect the Sanibel Lighthouse.

A special Sanibel Island-wide cleanup will be held Dec. 14 celebrating Sanibel City’s 50th Anniversary.
