A public workshop updating plans for the permanent replacement of the Sanibel Fishing Pier at Lighthouse Beach Park will be at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 15, at MacKenzie Hall in the Sanibel City Hall.

The alternatives are being considered based on factors including public access, environmental considerations, permitting, constructability, long-term resiliency and park operations.

City staff and the project consultant will present three potential locations currently being evaluated for construction of the new pier.

Separately, the existing fishing pier is currently undergoing the permitting process for temporary repairs that would allow it to reopen for public use while the permanent replacement pier is planned and constructed. The City’s goal is to minimize the amount of time the community is without access to a fishing pier by reopening the existing pier, once temporary repairs are completed and approved, and maintaining access to it for as long as reasonably possible during the replacement process.

The public will be able to review the locations, ask questions and provide feedback as the City continues the planning and design process.
