A skeleton of concrete pillars are all that remain of the Fort Myers Beach Pier. The once beloved landmark of the island community was part of the trail of destruction left behind by Hurricane Ian.

The Captiva Beach Renourishment Project is set to start September 20 at Turner Beach.The project will run 24 hours a day over an expected 56-day period, to place approximately 1.2 million cubic yards of sand along Captiva’s beaches.

High winds and rising waters can be dangerous for any structure during a hurricane, like a construction site. A site under development can go from a safety hazard to a storm assisted combat zone.

Following the series of storms that have battered Fort Myers Beach, the island community is slowly churning along on its massive rebuild.
