This week, three shows open at Southwest Florida equity and community theaters: "A Piece of My Heart" at The Naples Players, "Birthday Candles" at Florida Studio Theatre and "Julius Caesar" at the Laboratory Theater of Florida. Eight others close, ten continue their runs and there is one limited engagement.

“The Bridges of Madison County” is based on the best-selling novel by Jason Robert Brown and 1995 film starring Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. It was developed into a musical by Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Brown (“The Last Five Years,” “Parade,” “Songs for a New World”) and Pulitzer Prize-winner Marsha Norman. Southwest Florida Theatre's production features a classic story, stellar cast and gorgeous music.

This week, six shows open, five close, 16 continue their runs and there are two limited engagements at Southwest Florida equity, community and high school theaters.

Southwest Florida Theatre Producer Andrew Kurtz had the idea and the company’s Musical Director Julie Beardon Carver did the rest. The result is a holiday musical set in the magical town of Grimmville.

“Howl at the Moon” is a one-night-only Broadway cabaret where the ghosts of the Great White Way come out to play. “We're going to play some scary and creepy and spooky TV and movie themes that people will recognize,” said Southwest Florida Theatre Music Director Julie Beardon Carver.

Athena Rose Belis is going into her junior year at Florida Gulf Coast University. She’s angling for a degree and career in theater, but when asked about her long-range goals, she gives a full-throated laugh. That’s because Belis is already living the dream.

This week, nine shows close, 12 continue their runs and there are two limited-run young actors' productions at equity and community theaters from Sarasota to Marco Island. As an added bonus, there are three performances of Frank Blocker’s “Good Jew” at the Norris Center in Naples.
