Allegiant Air began service Thursday at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, with an inaugural flight from Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Southwest Florida International Airport will offer reserved parking, named RSWRemote, during Thanksgiving week. Travelers can reserve a parking spot in a remote parking lot on the north side of the airport. Cars will be accepted into the lot from Nov. 24 at 3 am through Nov. 26 at 7 pm. Cars can exit the lot from Nov. 28 through the last flight arrival on Nov. 30.

There were 96 flight delays and nine cancellations Saturday and at least 134 flight delays and 15 flight cancellations as of early Sunday evening at Southwest Florida International Airport. The numbers come from the MiseryMap, a listing of delays and cancellations at U.S. airports by FlightAware, a flight tracking service.

About 40 percent of the flight attendants being furloughed by Dania Beach-based Spirit Airlines work out of Florida, according to letters the air carrier, which filed for bankruptcy last month, sent to the state Department of Commerce. The company announced this week it planned to furlough 1,800 of its 5,200 flight attendants nationally starting Dec. 1.

April saw nearly 1.2 million passengers go through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase from the April 2024 passenger count, but a decrease for year-over-year statistics.The Lee County Port Authority says that the April number – 1.178 million passengers -- was the second-best April in the history of the airport.
