“Packing Up Polly” [Arts Center Theatre]: Polly Porter, famous 1970s gospel singer of the group Polly Porter & The Praise His Name Singers, has gone on to heaven. Her daughter, Caroline, has come home to Savannah, Georgia, to pack up Miss Polly’s house but there is just one little problem (or two or three): Miss Polly was an extreme hoarder of epic proportions, Caroline’s useless siblings are totally MIA, and her three best friends from high school, former co-cheerleaders, have all shown up…UNANNOUNCED! Lizzy now owns the Miss Georgia Belle Pageantry system, Donna Jo is the local community theatre diva, and Becca is having a late-in-life pregnancy with baby girl No. five. The gospel music plays and the margaritas pour as the four ladies laugh, cry, scream, and come together to pack up Miss Polly’s house, heal old wounds, and make new plans for their future. “The Addams Family” [Fort Myers Dinner Theatre]: In the kooky, upside-down world of the Addams Family, to be sad is to be happy, to feel pain is to feel joy, and death and suffering are the stuff of their dreams. Nonetheless, this quirky family still has to deal with many of the same challenges faced by any other family, and the spookiest nightmare faced by every family creates the focus of Lippa, Brickman, and Elice’s musical: the Addams kids are growing up. The Addamses have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and Gomez and Morticia, the patriarch and matriarch of the clan, would be only too happy to continue living that way. Their dark, macabre, beloved daughter Wednesday, however, is now an 18-year-old young woman who is ready for a life of her own. She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet, smart boy from a normal, respectable Ohio family — the most un-Addams-sounding person one could be! And to make matters worse, she has invited the Beinekes to their home for dinner. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations: change. Closes Nov. 7. This week’s performances are Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. For tickets, visit https://ftmyerstheatre.com/ or telephone 239-323-6570.
“The Addams Family Jr” [The Naples Players Academy]: “The Addams Family Jr” is a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and a dilemma that’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family—a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before—keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. Closes Nov. 8. All performances are already sold out.
CONTINUING
“Ahoy-Hoy” [Urbanite Theatre]: It’s 1876 and also, right now. Elisha Gray is this close to inventing the telephone. He’s brilliant, anxious, and ready to make history… if Alexander Graham Bell doesn’t beat him to it. Spoiler: He kind of does. Two oversize egos. One telephone. A battle of beards and bell tones. ”Ahoy-Hoy” is a deliriously unhinged, unapologetic sprint through American ambition, innovation, and the absurd quest for legacy. History has never been this ridiculous or this fun. Winner of the Audience Favorite Award, Urbanite 2025 Modern Works Festival. Closes Nov. 29.
