Gov. DeSantis's Executive Order Supersedes Measures Already in Place in Collier County

Things are changing rapidly as local governments issue executive orders, and then Governor DeSantis issues statewide measures of his own, in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Florida and mitigate the economic impact of the pandemic.

When it comes to evictions being suspended, the Governor’s executive order supersedes measures already in place in Collier County.

Collier County’s administrative judge suspended evictions until April 16, but following an earlier executive order issued by Governor DeSantis, evictions will be suspended statewide for 45 days.

A Public Information officer for the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said she couldn’t offer details, but did say the county will extend their eviction suspension to align with the Governor’s executive order.

CSO Lieutenant J.J. Carroll said the county Sheriff’s Office will not be issuing eviction notices.

“The Sheriff’s Office is not doing any evictions," Carroll said. “We are still doing civil process, but no evictions.”

DeSantis’s executive order also provides temporary relief from certain mortgage foreclosures for 45 days.
