Manatee deaths at 407 so far in 2025; Lee County ranks second

A new report from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission shows that 407 manatees have died this year in Florida as of last week.

Brevard County on the east coast and Lee County on the west have been the hot spots so far this year for manatee deaths, according to FWC figures.

Brevard reported 84 manatee deaths to date while Lee had 83. Lee and Brevard are also in the top 10 Florida counties for number of registered boats, Lee third with 48,139 an Brevard seventh with 35,001.

Here are the other Florida counties with the most manatee deaths to date:

  • Citrus County: 33
  • Monroe County: 25
  • Volusia County: 21
  • Charlotte County: 18
  • Manatee County: 15
  • Hillsborough County: 13
  • Pinellas County: 10
  • Duval County: 9
  • Martin County: 9
