Lee County Commissioners received the largest reimbursement of funds this week from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to reinburse for Hurricane Irma recovery costs.
Lee County recieved $17.7 million for debris removal related to the 2017 storm.
According to Lee County officials, 2.7 million cubic yards of debris was collected after the storm passed - enough to fill about 820 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The county spent $37.4 million to remove it all.
The county requested $40.4 million in expenses incurred to recover from Hurricane Irma and to date, has received a little over half of that amount.
