Former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll in a rare interview – the second since her resignation last month – said she was asked to resign but didn't break the law.
Carroll left office abruptly on March 12th after federal and state law enforcement agencies arrested 57 people connected with Allied Veterans of the World, a chain of Internet cafes.
Carroll told Jacksonville's WJXT-TV it was right she was questioned by investigators because she'd done some consulting work for the chain. But she said she didn't do anything wrong, although the decision to resign was the right one.
"…because, clearly, my name, being the top elected official and the title that I had brings sensational stories", Carroll said. "It would have detracted from the governor doing his work -- his legislative agenda and his political campaign."
A spokeswoman for Governor Rick Scott said out of respect to Carroll and her family, the office won't comment further except to say that she made the right decision.
