Protests are taking place all over the country Saturday in a movement dubbed 'No Kings.'
No Kings

Recent, high-profile ICE raids at workplaces across the country  are sparking protests. President Trump, protestors claim, continues breaking campaign promises that only immigrants with violent pasts would be detained and deported. That’s not what’s happening with blanket sweeps that deny due process and even detain American citizens.

From Los Angeles to New York, demonstrators from major cities across the country are taking to the streets this week, ahead of Saturday’s previously planned nationwide demonstration called “No Kings.”

This Saturday, June 14 is significant for many reasons. On this day 250 years ago, The United States' Army was created to stand up to a monarch claiming absolute power. Two years later, in 1777, the Continental Congress approved the design for the United States' flag.

And June 14 is also President Donald Trump’s birthday. He’ll be 79 on Saturday.

Even though such martial spectacles are usually at the end of a war, tanks are expected to roll down the streets of the nation’s capital in a parade on Saturday. There will be military aircraft flyovers and around 7,000 troops.

More on the story

Elsewhere, there will be protests by those who believe the president has twisted the Army’s legacy to center the day around himself. This grass-roots, pro-democracy movement has mobilized some 1,800 protests in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
