Nearly 900 Florida Power and Light crews from all over the state are among the thousands of relief workers aiding recovery efforts in states devastated by Hurricane Sandy. The storm cut a destructive path along the East Coast this week, leaving at least 100 people dead and millions without power.

FPL spokesman Greg Brostowicz says the work crews receive their orders from utilities in other states, and then clear out debris, reset poles and hang new power lines.

"We are a part of a mutual assistance partnership with the utilities”, said Brostowicz. “Down in Florida, we're not a stranger to some of this severe weather. So we know that a lot times we have to call for help. Last week, for instance, we had some crews come down from Georgia to help with the northern part of our service territory. So we like to get out and help our utility partners, as well."

Last year, FPL sent crews up north to help restore power following Tropical Storm Irene.
