Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno will be appearing on the November ballot.

On Tuesday, Marceno defeated Jim Leavens in the Republican primary election Lee County Sheriff race.

Marceno, the incumbent, won 69% of the vote, Leavens received 31%. There were 83,035 votes cast in the race.

Marceno was appointed by then-Gov. Rick Scott in 2018 after former Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott retired.

Leavens is a veteran of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office; he worked there for 30 years.

On Nov. 3, Marceno will face Democrat Robert Neeld and no-party-affiliated candidates Carmen McKinney and Coach Ray.

  • Gray Catbirds are in a bird family known as the “Mimidae” – because they mimic other birds, other animals, and even mechanical sounds. Other members of their family in Florida include the Brown Thrasher and the Northern Mockingbird – two excellent mimics that we often see and hear year-round as they feed, sing, and nest in relatively open vegetation. They often mimic the vocalizations of other bird species and it has been suggested that their mimicry may send the message that the area is crowded – and cause other birds to search for food elsewhere.
