An old phone scam is popping back up in the Bay County area.

The Bay County Sheriff’s office wants residents to be aware of the IRS phone scam.

Authorities say the IRS [Internal Revenue Service] will never call a person and demand they pay their taxes using a gift card.

They also say residents should never give away the transaction number to a gift card to anyone they don’t know.

A few months ago, the sheriff’s office also received numerous complaints about the IRS phone scam with the scammer wanting to receive payment through a gift card or green dot money card.
