Fires Force California Residents to Abandon Homes

Firefighters attempt to prevent flames from advancing and destroying homes in California's San Diego county early on Wednesday.

As the fires burn on in Southern California, more than a half-million people have been forced to leave their homes in the largest evacuation in the state's history — and the largest evacuation in the United States since Hurricane Katrina.
