Just in Time for Valentine's Day: 'Jazz for Lovers'

Fantasy Records has released a new collection of classic recordings from the 1950s and 1960s, called Jazz for Lovers. Musician and Day to Day contributor David Was reviews the collection, and finds some nice surprises in the mix.

The collection includes CDs of various songs from some of the biggest names in jazz -- Tony Bennett, Miles Davis, Sara Vaughan, Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans and Chet Baker.

October exhibits at the Alliance for the Arts focus on rites of passage and the passage of time

“Passage of Time: A Themed Members Show” considers everything from shifting seasons and aging to physical journeys and symbolic crossings from where we have been to where we are going. Artist Dahye Kim uses video, photography, light, sound and reflective screens to create an environment where past, present and future converge. Marian Fuller employs reclaimed materials and found objects to uncover unexpected meanings in ordinary things. These exhibitions are on view Oct. 2-31.
