Only 17 Southwest Florida arts organizations to share in $65.9 million in arts funding approved by Legislature for 2026-2027. Again this year, some major arts organizations in Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties have been left on the outside looking in.

In June, there are 28 shows at art centers throughout Southwest Florida, including “This Is Not a Pizza Box” at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center.

“Innovative Expressions” by Bonnie Sprung is on view Sept. 25 through Nov. 6 in the Hinman Auditorium Gallery-in-the-Round at Arts Bonita Performing Arts Center.For his show, Sprung is mixing and matching artwork from two series.

From Sarasota to Marco Island and Venice and Sanibel to Arcadia and LaBelle, Southwest Florida is home to more than a dozen art centers. Most host visual art exhibitions showcasing member, regional and nationally renowned artists that change every month. In June, there are 26 shows at these venues. Each will stimulate viewers’ imaginations and underscore the importance of the arts in our part of the country.

During the week of April 7, 2025, ten shows open, six shows close and 15 others continue their runs at equity and community theaters from Marco Island to Sarasota.

On November 21, “Dreams to Wings” opened in Arts Bonita’s gallery in the round at its Performing Arts Center in the Hinman Auditorium on Bonita Beach Road. It's a collection of work by Fort Myers Beach Art Association members, who lost their permanent home during Hurricane Ian.
