LeeTran will begin a pilot program offering half-priced ULTRA Mobility on Demand rides in Lehigh Acres for bus rides to and from its new Lehigh Acres site, 1121 Village Lakes Drive, on June 12.

This initiative aims to enhance transfer station use, promote convenience for residents and increase connectivity to LeeTran’s fixed-route transit services.

The Lehigh Acres Park & Ride transit station had its grand opening in April and provides rider amenities such as covered seating areas, public restrooms, mobile device charging stations and more.

LeeTran’s current routes (110 and 515) run on the corridor between Lehigh Acres and Fort Myers. The routes travel from the Edison Mall to the Lehigh Acres Park & Ride and onward to Joel Boulevard via Homestead Road.

Lowering the fare price for the Mobility on Demand rides during this pilot program will benefit those who rely on transit as their primary mode of transportation, improving access to essential services, employment opportunities and recreational facilities.

“We believe this initiative will increase the Lehigh Acres station utilization, which in turn supports the goals of increasing ridership on Lehigh Acres fixed routes and Mobility on Demand services,” said Dominic Gemelli, director of Lee County Transit. “By lowering Mobility on Demand fares from $3 to $1.50 per ride, the initiative seeks to achieve all of these objectives effectively and sustainably while mitigating traffic congestion.”
