FGCU Softball falls 6-0 to UF; elimination game today vs. FAU

The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team fell to the University of Florida Gators Friday 6-0 in regional College World Series action.

The Eagles (37-19-0) will play in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. today. Their opponent will be the Florida Atlantic University Owls (41-14-0). The Owls lost Friday to the South Alabama Jaguars 1-0.

The Jaguars will play the Gators at 1 p.m. today. The winner of that game will play the winner of the FGCU-FAU contest in Super Regional action May 23-26.

Why FEMA redraws flood maps and what it means for Lee County

Mullock Creek Preserve in Lee County and surrounding areas were submerged in more than 8 feet of water during Hurricane Ian. To address this, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) updated the emergency flood maps for residents and property owners surrounding the preserve, nearly four years after Ian’s landfall. But there’s a common misconception regarding these maps and why they are revised—one Donald Duke, Ph.D., a Florida Gulf Coast University professor in the Department of Ecology and Environmental Studies, said property owners in all areas need to remain privy to.
