Scott signed a campaign finance bill and an ethics bill, both top priorities of legislative leaders. The signing came minutes after the House approved a key priority of Scott's, a bill eliminating the sales tax on new manufacturing equipment.

Scott also vetoed a bitterly-contested bill that would have ended permanent alimony and allowed divorces already settled to be renegotiated.The governor praised the Republican sponsors – Senator Kelli Stargel and Representative Ritch Workman – but wrote in his veto message he opposed the bill because it was retroactive.

Scott said he couldn't disrupt the lives of people who had sacrificed their careers to raise children years after they'd done so.
