Everglades Greenway Could Connect Miami and Naples

Miami-Dade park planners are drawing up designs for a pathway through the Everglades for cyclists and hikers. The greenway would connect Miami and Naples.

The National Park Service selected some planners from the county's parks department to draw up plans for a long stretch of the Everglades greenway. The path would run along the Tamiami Trail and would link together other trails parks, campgrounds and nature preserves. The goal is to make it so locals and tourists alike can better explore the Everglades without a car.

But don't expect to take a day trip down the greenway any time soon. The trail would be built in stages and the ambitious plan could take decades to finish.

Miami-Dade planners are looking to get public input on the plan. They're hosting a series of workshops through Saturday at Florida International University's Tamiami campus.
