South Florida is expected to have a normal to below-average hurricane season this year, but safety measures are still required from local and state agencies. Robert Atlas, the director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shared yesterday how 2014 will look like.

“This hurricane season NOAA is forecasting 8 to13 named storms, 3 to 6 hurricanes and 1 to 2 major hurricanes, but the need to prepare is as strong as ever", Atlas said. "It only takes one storm to make it a bad hurricane season.”

1992 also was an inactive storm season, but that changed after Hurricane Andrew passed through the region in August.WLRN.org
