97 Percent Of Florida Teachers Received Positive Evaluation

Most Florida teachers earned positive reviews, according to new state teacher evaluations. The Florida Department of Education released data Thursday showing which teachers had the most "highly effective" teachers.

The Florida Department of Education says 97% of Florida teachers are rated satisfactory or better. That's according to new evaluations required by a 2011 state law. Teachers are judged based on student test scores and classroom visits.

More than 20% of teachers earned the highest rating of "Highly Effective." 75% earned "Effective" ratings.
The rest were rated in one of the three lowest categories. Those teachers may receive more training and mentoring.

Researchers have criticized the ratings for having large margins of error. Teachers complain they can be rated based on students they have not taught.

The Florida Department of Education spent Thursday correcting the data, after school district found errors.

    A wildfire of undetermined origin was burning in 98 acres alongside northbound Interstate 75 by mile marker 151 Saturday with smoke and flames visible from the freeway. The fire was reported at 85 percent contained.
