The Lee County School District is no longer reporting information about COVID-19 infections associated with schools each morning on the district's website.
The district on Tuesday replaced its online dashboard with a link to the Florida Department of Health, the News Press reported. The state health data lists COVID-19 cases tied to public and private schools as well as colleges and universities in Florida.
School District spokesman Rob Spicker says the decision was made because the state data is more detailed.
Department of Health data indicates that 65 schools (K-12) or school-related facilities in Lee County have experienced COVID-19 cases between September 6 and October 10. During that time, 127 coronavirus infections were reported.
The district plans to continue sending out alerts to school communities in the case of a new positive COVID-19 test.
So far, the virus has prompted 14-day quarantines for two classrooms in the school district including a classroom at Gateway Elementary on September 10 and at Villas Elementary on September 29.
