State wildlife officials say an endangered Florida panther was struck and killed by a vehicle last week. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says remains of the three-year-old female cat were found August 12th on a rural road in Hendry County. The incident marks the 14th panther death from a vehicle strike this year, of a total of 16 panther deaths.

Wildlife biologists estimate that up to just 230 Florida panthers remain in the wild, the AP reports.
