The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office launched a new program designed to help connect local seniors with community services and resources.

CCSO community affairs specialist Chris Hall said Charlotte County has the second largest elderly population in the country. He said Sheriff Bill Prummell was very passionate about launching the Senior Outreach Program to ensure those seniors are not lost in the fray.

"One of the things that our sheriff specifically said he wanted to do was find a way to connect with some of our elders and our seniors in our community, especially the ones that are living alone," Hall said.

Those enrolled in the Senior Outreach Program will receive a weekly call from community affairs office volunteers.

"It's just basically a way to check in," Hall said. "Reach out and say 'hey how are you doing, you doing ok, do you need anything?'"

Hall said the program will help to connect seniors in need with services and resources, free of charge.
