Tropical Storm Gert formed east of the Bahamas Sunday and expected to turn away from the United States. So while there are no current tropical threats to Florida, Meteorologist Jeff Huffman says this week is a turning point in the Atlantic.
"On average, more than twice as many tropical storms or hurricanes form over the next three weeks than in the past three months combined. And both reliable long-range forecast models show the development of a new, long-lived system moving through the Atlantic in the next 5 to 10 days", said Huffman.
Huffman encourages all Floridians to finish any seasonal preparations this week.
