Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty is leaving his post. McCarty announced his resignation Tuesday. His last day is scheduled for May 2.

McCarty was in the cross hairs just last year, when Gov. Rick Scott was reportedly talking with potential new hires for the insurance commissioner position. But that process got put on hold, after controversy surrounding the ousting of former Florida Department of Law Enforcement Secretary Gerald Bailey. In an emailed statement, McCarty says he’s resigning to "pursue other job opportunities." The Associated Press reports McCarty saying the governor did not ask him to resign.
