The Duval County School District is extending an online surveythrough the holidays to gather parents’ input on mandatory uniforms. Friday was original deadline for the community to weigh in.
Superintendent Nikolai Vitti wants all elementary and middle school students to wear uniforms next year.
Vitti told our partner News4Jax there’s a renewed focus and belief in uniforms across the county. He points out, students at about 50 Duval schools already wear uniforms, and that’s without a mandate.
“We feel like that could help all of our elementary and middle schools focus a bit better on discipline, safety, student achievement, limited distractions, help parents financially,” Vitti said.
The uniforms would not be uniform district-wide. In a School Board workshop this year, Vitti said schools would get to choose their own colors.
