Key West Cracking Down On Ride-Sharing Services

Key West will start arresting drivers for ride-sharing services likeand, the city announced Tuesday.

Starting Wednesday, any driver violating the city's vehicle-for-hire ordinance will be arrested, said Alyson Crean, the city spokeswoman. The city has 56 licenses, all of them issued to taxi companies.

"It's been an ongoing issue. We continue to get complaints," Crean said. "You give warning. You give leeway and then you have to get to the next step because it's still continuing."

Uber and Lyft do not consider themselves taxi companies; rather they use apps to connect independent drivers with people who need a ride.
