The following Highlands County candidates are seeking votes for the District 1 seat, which is the Avon Park area. Even though candidate run for particular districts, voters throughout all of Highlands have a say on each of the school board races. The race is non-partisan.
Coral reefs are among the most diverse ecosystems on earth, providing habitat and sustenance for around one-third of underwater wildlife. In Florida, they not only provide a draw for tourism, they provide habitat for marine fisheries, and protection from wave impact in storms. However, in Florida, those animals are under threat due to heat, disease and human impact. All is not lost. Citizens and scientists are working to mitigate the losses.
