One of the sales-tax holidays backed by Governor Rick Scott received Senate committee support this week, but minor turbulence could be ahead as the measure travels through the Legislature.
Scott recommended a fifteen-day period in June for a list of hurricane-related items to be sales-tax free. The Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee approved a version of the proposal that stands at 12 days.
Senate sponsor Rob Bradley, a Fleming Island Republican, called the differences between his bill and Scott's recommendation "minor details that need to be worked out.""We're still waiting to get the fiscal impact statement on the governor's proposal, and once that comes in, I believe we'll be able to resolve those differences in short order."
In November, state economists projected that Bradley's proposal would cut state and local government tax revenue about $3.6 million.
Bradley's measure still must get through the Finance and Tax Subcommittee and the Appropriations Committee.
