A coalition of civil-rights groups is calling for changes to state elections laws to require voting on the Sunday before Election Day.

Black churches used to offer "Souls to the Polls" voter drives on that day before a controversial elections bill was passed in 2011, barring the practice.

Lawmakers are leaning against requiring county supervisors of elections to offer voting on the Sunday before most voters head to the polls.

But Phelicia Stiell of the National Congress of Black Women said lawmakers should remember they're accountable to voters.

"And so, because they are elected, they need to understand that should they fail to do what we need them to do, we certainly have the power to make sure that they're un-elected", Stiell said.

The civil-rights groups also want to make it easier for felons to regain their right to vote.
