Counties Still Counting: Two Down and Two to Go

Miami-Dade and now Broward county have finished counting votes. But absentee and provisional ballots are still being tallied in other counties.

Elections officials in Palm Beach, and Duval counties are still counting ballots. Those counties must have unofficial results to the state by noon on Saturday.
Election officials say more people voted absentee this year and many submitted their ballots last minute on election day.

Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections Penelope Townsley says a combination of things slowed down the counting process.

"We had the volume to deal with. We had the long ballot to deal with", said Townsley. "And, it's an opportunity for us to make it right."

Another issue facing South Florida election officials: extremely long lines at polling sites both on election day and during early voting.

Miami-Dade's mayor Carlos Gimenez is forming a task force of commissioners to look into those issues.
