A misprint on 60,000 absentee ballots means vote counting in Palm Beach County will be sort of special again this year.
Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher explained, “The ballot is fine. It just did not include the titles for the retention of the Supreme Court justices and the fourth district court of appeals. The races are included on the ballot and we’re receiving volumes of ballots back and we haven’t really had any kind of concerns from our voters. But we just want to point out that these races are on there and they lack a title.”
Bucher says each of those ballots will have to be examined to determine the intent of each voter. Then the vote will be transferred to a properly printed ballot so it can be read by a scanner.
“You would have a team of people that would, two people and they would take a look at the voted ballot and have a blank ballot and they would replicate the votes on a corrected front card and there’s a quality control process” Bucher said. “We do this in the course of our business often, so have so we have a process for it.”
Bucher says nearly 10,000 absentee ballots have already been turned into her office.
