Arthur is in an environment that is susceptible to modest strengthening over the next 24 hours. Right now, the storm is nearly stationary about 80 miles east-southeast of Cape Canaveral. As of the 2pm advisory, maximum winds were at 40mph.“I anticipate those numbers will go up this evening as hurricane hunters have recently found wind in the 50 to 60 mph range southeast of the center,” said Jeff Huffman, Florida Public Radio Emergency Network meteorologist.
“Despite the strengthening, though, significant wind and sea impacts are expected to remain offshore,” he said.
Bands of heavy rain will become more common for much of central and south Florida once the center of Arthur moves further north, but nothing too drastically different from the afternoon storms we see nearly every day this time of year in Florida.
