The State of the Everglades: Pythons, Rising Seas and Rising Bridges

Steve Newborn WUSF

Marjory Stoneman Douglas once said, "The Everglades is a test. If we pass it, we may get to keep the planet." With all the ditching and dredging that's been going on for the past century, we're likely failing that test. But a slew of new projects is giving hope for the future.

So says Dan Kimball, superintendent of Everglades National Park. He spoke with WUSF's Steve Newborn this week after a speech he gave at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. They talk about the threat of rising sea levels, Burmese pythons - and turning Tamiami Trail into a bridge.
