Florida Fish and Wildlife Officials will hold a public meeting in Glades County August 1st about long-term plans for the Fisheating Creek Wildlife Management Area.
Beth Morford, a biologist with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in Glades County, worked with other officials to draft a 10-year plan for Fisheating Creek.
She said one of the goals is to provide more recreational access.
“They are looking at improving and maybe creating some additional trails,” Morford said. “We have improved signage around the creek for paddlers and we will continue to monitor that and improve on that as necessary.”
Morford said officials are also looking at putting in a boat ramp—but most of these projects depend on state funding.
The plan also addresses the removal of invasive species like Melaleuca and Brazilian Pepper, as well as more prescribed burns in the management area.
Morford said this plan will help protect wildlife in and around Fisheating Creek, as well as preserve the land.
