Florida Quickens Pace Of Its Executions, Schedules Next One For October 5

In 1984, Lambrix was sentenced to death for the murders of Aleisha Bryant and Clarence Moore Jr. in rural Glades County.

Florida is scheduled to execute its next Death Row inmate next month.

Gov. Rick Scott signed a new death warrant on Friday setting the execution of Michael Lambrix for 6 p.m. Oct. 5.

Lambrix was previously set to die in February 2016 but his execution was halted amid questions over the constitutionality of Florida’s death penalty law.

He has been on Death Row since 1984 after he was convicted in 1983 of murdering Aleisha Bryant and Clarence Moore Jr., following a night of drinking in Glades County.

Naples Botanical Garden is conducting a prescribed fire today on approximately 2 acres of their Preserve area. The burn is expected to begin around midmorning and last several hours. Garden staff will continue to monitor the area into the evening and the following days to ensure no hot spots go undetected.

Little Blue Herons are medium in size among herons – bigger than a Green Heron, but much smaller than a Great Blue Heron. The “blue color” of adults often tends towards gray and it helps them blend in with their aquatic environment. This heron is unusual in that its juvenile plumage is all white – a characteristic that allows it to blend in with other white birds – which it readily does, thus gaining “group” protection from potential predators and access to food resources found by the other species. Adults are much more solitary.
