Water boil orders have been issued for parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties, and all of Monroe county. Water in Miami-Dade county is currently safe to drink.

Boil orders apply to water used for drinking, cooking and brushing teeth, making ice and washing dishes; boiling is not required for water used for bathing and general cleaning,  Broward county officials advise. Water is safe when it has been boiled for 60 seconds, or been treated with household bleach.

When treating drinking water with bleach, add eight drops of unscented household bleach to water and let sit for 30 minutes to disinfect. If water is still cloudy after 30 minutes, treat it again. If you cannot be sure that your water is potable, use bottled water.

BROWARD COUNTY

Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Miramar, West Park, Dania Beach: The entire city of Hollywood, plus portions of  cities that receive their water from Hollywood, are affected by the boil water advisory. This includes residents in Broward County Water/Wastewater Services Districts 3A and 3BC, which covers parts of Pembroke Pines, Miramar, West Park and Dania Beach.

Sunrise: City of Sunrise utilities customers are not under boil orders at this time.

Hallandale Beach: Parts of Three Islands Boulevard in Desoto Park South in Hallandale Beach are under a boil order. Residents at 501, 601, 701, 801 and 851 Three Islands Boulevard are affected, due to a water main break at Parkview Drive. For further information, call the city of Hallandale Beach at 954-457-3060. • Armadillos are mammals with no close relatives and a fossil record that dates back millions of years. All are well-protected above by stout plates and scale-like structures but with narrow bands on the back that allow them to quickly curl up to protect their underside. They have many peg-like teeth that are continuously growing, and no teeth at the front of the mouth. Thus you don’t need to worry about being bitten. An armadillo’s legs are very strong and they are master diggers -- especially in sandy soils. They dig to find food and also to make shallow burrows where they shelter during hot days. They are somewhat gregarious and active mostly at night. Yes, they may dig holes in your yard, but the holes tend to be shallow and a cheap price to pay for an evening of watching them greatly reduce harmful insect populations-- and then they are likely to move on.

  • President Donald Trump was reported uninjured and other top leaders of the United States were evacuated from an annual dinner of White House correspondents after an unspecified threat. There did not immediately appear to be any injuries, and one law-enforcement official said a shooter opened fire. The Secret Service and other authorities swarmed the banquet hall at the Washington Hilton as guests ducked under tables by the hundreds. "Out of the way, sir!" someone yelled. Others yelled to duck. Some in the crowd reported hearing what they believed to be five to eight shots fired. The banquet hall — where hundreds of prominent journalists, celebrities and national leaders were awaiting Trump's speech — was immediately evacuated. It was not immediately clear what happened.
