CRC Watchdogs Blast Draft Rules

Advocacy groups like the American Civil Liberties Union and the League of Women Voters are sounding the alarm as the powerful Constitution Revision Commission adopts its own rules and procedures.

Advocates are blasting draft rules they say would allow secret meetings and give the chair dictatorial power.
Florida Conservation Voters head Aliki Moncrief says the commission needs to be more open.

“When it comes to this incredibly important process that only happens every 20 years that the commissioners are operating in full sunlight and in full compliance with our open government laws”, said Moncrief.

The 27-member CRC can put measures directly on the November ballot. It meets Wednesday in Tampa to consider the draft rules. Governor Rick Scott and Republican lawmakers appointed the bulk of the commission and advocates expect attacks on judicial independence and reproductive rights.
