Three Groups Of Cuban Migrants Arrive In Keys

This group of 13 men was one of three that arrived in the Keys Sunday and Monday.

Three groups of Cuban migrants, totaling 29 men, arrived in the Keys Sunday and Monday.

According to the, 13 men came ashore on Key Largo near mile marker 99 at 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Less than 24 hours later, around 1 a.m. Monday, another group of 13 men arrived on North Key Largo along State Road 905. That's the road that connects U.S. 1 and Card Sound Road, the alternate link to the mainland.

And at 9:30 a.m. Monday, another group of three men arrived in Key Colony Beach, a city in the Middle Keys.

According to the sheriff's office, all of the men were in good condition. They were turned over to Customs and Border Patrol.

According to the provision of the Cuban Adjustment Act known as "wet foot-dry foot," Cuban migrants who make it to U.S. soil are allowed to stay in the country, while those who are intercepted at sea are returned to Cuba.

Since the resumption of diplomatic relations with Cuba, there has been an increase in migration from that country, both across the Straits of Florida and via Mexico.
