New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is renewing calls for a shutdown of the Indian Point nuclear reactor near New York City.
It’s been five years this month since a disaster at the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan, and critics say that meltdown offers a warning for what could happen if the Indian Point reactor faces a major malfunction or terror attack.
But the reactor’s owners say the plant is safe, and they’re seeking a 20-year license renewal. Brian Mann from Here and Now contributor North Country Public Radio reports.
