Even though the tropics are unusually quiet for this time of year, there certainly isn't an absence of tropical moisture over Florida. In today's update from the Florida Public Radio Meteorologist Network, Meteorologist Jeff Huffman tells us who's in line to get the heaviest rain over the coming days.
Rainfall totals in parts of central Florida exceeded six inches Tuesday. This followed the widespread one to three inch amounts that fell in many areas of central and northeast Florida Monday, and the pattern that is producing the above normal rainfall is likely to continue for much of the week. A stationary front interacting with an abundance of deep tropical moisture will only slowly drift north through Friday. Low pressure developing along this front in the northeast Gulf of Mexico could enhance the rainfall in the panhandle and along Florida's western coastline by the end of the week. Elsewhere in the tropics, all remains quiet and no new storms are forecast to develop in the next five days.
