On June 15, Fort Myers City Council awarded $150,000 in arts and culture grants. Of the 47 applicants this year, grants were awarded to over a dozen arts organizations, one group and one individual artist. The total awarded, $150,000, was the same amount the city awarded last year.

Most people associate the character of Quasimodo with physical deformity. But after years of ringing the bells of Notre Dame, he was also extremely hard of hearing. So Melody Lane Theatre teamed up with the Sally J. Pimentel Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center to teach the cast of "Hunchback of Notre Dame" sign language and familiarize them with deaf culture.
