Fully Robotic Whipple Surgery for Pancreatic Cancer

The American Cancer Society estimates more than 45,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year with a mortality rate of more than 38,000.  The prognosis for pancreatic cancer is one of the poorest among common forms of cancer. Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa is the first in Florida to offer robotic Whipple surgery. This new fully robotic procedure is less invasive and gives patients a faster recovery time from the complex operation. We’ll learn more from Moffitt Cancer Center researcher Dr. Mokenge Malafa and one of his patients who has undergone the procedure.
